Client Spotlight: Louie & Honey's Kitchen

Louie & Honey's Kitchen was a welcomed addition to the Winston-Salem Alphabet when I released the newest version in November of 2023, featuring a box of their famous Amish Cinnamon Rolls for the letter 'L'.
If you're not familiar with Louie & Honey, they're a mother daughter duo who started the business in 2017, regularly popping up at Cobblestone Farmer's Market to deliver freshly baked goods. It didn't take long for their Amish Cinnamon Rolls to become a staple in the local community. Crafted from a heritage recipe of their Amish and Mennonite culture, they're hand-rolled in small batches and contain fresh mashed potatoes in the dough to keep them pillowy. Covered in an irresistible signature boiled brown sugar frosting... it's no wonder they regularly sell out at their bakery on West End Boulevard.
In the midst of creating a Louie & Honey inspired illustration for the Winston-Salem Alphabet, I also embarked on client work for the bakery, drawing a singular cinnamon roll illustration which we used to design greeting cards for them to sell (the perfect pairing with a box of their cinnamon rolls!) We came up with greeting cards that are A6 in size (4.5" x 6.25") and printed on an ultra-thick, 120 lb. card stock. They're accompanied by 100% cotton envelopes for a classic touch, and packaged in a clear cello sleeve - ready to be displayed for sale at the entry of their bakery in the West End of Winston-Salem.
Next up was an enamel pin. Designing the pin involved creating a line drawing from my original illustration, which looked like this:
The black lines in the 'Outline Drawing' represent the iron mold that's produced to hold the hard enamel colored filling. Once I had sign off from the client on the overall design, I proceeded with selecting Pantone colors for each section of the pin. This was perhaps the trickiest part, as colors are limited to a specific subset of Pantone swatches (Solid Coated) and when it comes to light whites/tans, there are only a handful of options.
After making my final color selections, I mocked up what the final pin would look like and sent it along to the client for final approval. Once approved, we moved into production!
Finally, after receiving the final pins, I did a quality check on each and every one before carefully placing them into an acrylic box for delivery. If you're local to Winston-Salem you've probably already tried one of Louie & Honey's delectable treats, but if not, the Amish Cinnamon Rolls are a must. They also make the perfect gift, so consider pairing a box of them with one of these greeting cards or pins :)
Thanks for reading!

The most amazing cinnamon rolls.
Fun story: I went to go visit Tay, Pete, and the fam without my boyfriend. This guy made me bring a whole box of 4 cinnamon rolls on an hour Uber ride to the airport, through security, and a 2 hour plane ride just so he could have one. I think I received at least 5 compliments from people saying how good they looked. He picked me up from the airport, ate one while doing a loop, then he hopped on his flight to Buffalo. If that doesn’t tell you how delicious they are I don’t know what does. Always a stop when I’m in W-S.
